Who We Are

The Oak Cliff Society of Mahjong

OCSM was founded in 2025 with a simple idea: bring together a community of mahjong players right here in Oak Cliff, Dallas. What started as a small circle of players has grown into a thriving league community with two weekly programs, dozens of dedicated members, and a whole lot of mahjong being played.

We welcome players of all experience levels. Whether you're showing up for the competition or just the company, there's a seat at the table for you.

Our leagues are hosted at Nova at 1417 W. Davis Street in Dallas — and we teach all over Oak Cliff, including at beloved local spots like Davis Street Mercantile, Cretia's, Little Joy, and beyond.

Community + Competition

We take the game seriously. We don't take ourselves too seriously. OCSM is a space where experienced players can compete and grow, beginners can find their footing, and everyone can enjoy a great game in great company.

The Founders

Meet Sarah & Lisa

Sarah Lott

Co-Founder & Lead Instructor

Sarah Lott moved to Oak Cliff in 2019 and has fallen more in love with this vibrant community every year since. She and her husband and son live in Wynnewood North, and when she's not mahj-ing she's a commercial real estate lawyer. Sarah's been playing mahjong for more than five years, and has been teaching since 2023.

Aside from Nova (duh), her favorite Oak Cliff spots are Little Joy (for the best strawberry matcha in town), Old Monk (the fish and chips are to die for), Davis Street Mercantile (a cuter store has never existed), Calle Doce (for some great mariscos), and any elote cart she can find. Her favorite mahjong set? The Miss Mahjong Miss Darling Set on her Tigre de Tartan mat.

Lisa Martel

Co-Founder

Lisa Martel has deep roots in our Oak Cliff community and a passion for connecting others that shows up across industries. Not just a mahjong maven, Lisa is a culinary professional (personal chef, cooking instructor, and catering specialist) sharing her passion for food and hospitality with clients across North Texas. Lisa is actively involved in neighborhood and civic organizations, including as a board member at Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts.

Both Mahjong Monday and Tile Tuesday leagues run here, Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6:30–9:00 PM.
